Continuing the curious mix of serious philanthropic topics of concern and whimsical themed days, today it rotates back to serious with the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Though little was found in research on little known facts about women, with regards to the day, the following was obtained from the UNs offical page on the day:
Despite being more numerous than men, women comprise only 30% of researchers worldwide, and are exceptionally low in Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Manufacturing and Construction. There are still, sadly, biases and stereotypes within the field, stagnating even the most enthusiastic female applicant.
We urge girls and women interested in the above referenced fields to apply and pursue their passion. For additional links to what women are doing and to build energy for a unified call to action, check out the UN page here: https://www.un.org/en/observances/women-and-girls-in-science-day
